Add NerdHunt to your phone
NerdHunt is a website that installs like an app. On your Home Screen it opens full-screen, usually stays signed in, and on iPhone it is the only way to get alerts. No app store; it takes about a minute.
Choose your device.
iPhone and iPad
Alerts on iPhone and iPad only work from the Home Screen app, on iOS 16.4 or later. A Safari tab cannot receive them, so do this part first.
- 1
Open nerdhunt in Safari
Sign in if you are not already. Then tap the Share button: the square with an arrow pointing up, usually in the bar at the bottom. On newer iPhones it can be behind the More button, the three dots.Illustration, not a control · Safari on iPhone. Scroll the sheet and tap Add to Home Screen
It is below the row of apps, in the list of actions. Scroll down if you do not see it. If it is not in the list at all, scroll to the end, tap Edit Actions, and switch Add to Home Screen on.Illustration, not a control · The share sheet. Scroll the list until you see Add to Home Screen. - 3
Tap Add
Keep the name as NerdHunt. On newer iOS there is an “Open as Web App” switch on this screen; leave it on.Illustration, not a control · Leave the name as it is and tap Add. The icon lands on your Home Screen. - 4
Open it from your Home Screen from now on
If it asks you to sign in, use the code from the email, inside the app. Then turn on alerts.Illustration, not a control · What you are looking for afterwards: the NerdHunt icon among your apps.
Using Chrome on iPhone? Tap Share beside the address bar, then Add to Home Screen. Everything else is the same.
Android
Alerts work on Android from Chrome in a tab as well as from the installed app. Installing still helps: it opens full-screen and usually stays signed in.
- 1
Open nerdhunt in Chrome and sign in
- 2
Tap the three dots at the top right
Chrome shows one of two rows. Install app gives you a full app in its own window. Add to Home screen may make a shortcut that opens in Chrome. Both put an icon on your Home screen, and alerts work either way. Chrome may also offer an “Install” bar at the bottom of the page on its own.Illustration, not a control · Chrome on Android. Tap the three dots at the top right; the row says Install app or Add to Home screen. - 3
Tap Install (or Add)
The icon appears on your Home screen. Open it from there from now on.Illustration, not a control · What you are looking for afterwards: the NerdHunt icon among your apps.
Samsung Internet or Firefox? Both have an add-to-Home-screen option in their menu; the wording changes between versions, so look for “Add page to”, “Add to Home screen” or “Install”.
Mac
On a Mac you do not have to install anything to get alerts; the browser only needs permission. Installing gives NerdHunt its own window and Dock icon.
Pick the browser you use. You only need one of these.

Safari: File, then Add to Dock
Needs macOS Sonoma or later. Confirm the name and click Add. Safari can deliver alerts even when it is closed.Illustration, not a control · Safari on a Mac (macOS Sonoma or later). File menu, then Add to Dock. - 2

Windows
You do not have to install anything to get alerts on Windows; the browser only needs permission. Installing puts NerdHunt in the Start menu with its own window, and you can pin it to the taskbar.

Firefox 143 or later also installs
Look for the install icon in the address bar. Older Firefox opens NerdHunt as a normal tab, which is fine.
Good to know
There is nothing to download from an app store and nothing to update. The app on your Home Screen is NerdHunt in its own window, always current. It needs a connection, the same as the website; nothing works offline.
Nothing changes about your account. Favourites, settings and points are the same wherever you open it.
