Privacy Policy
NerdHunt is a tool for finding product on shelves. It needs a little about you to work, and this page says exactly what, why, who can see it, and how to have it removed. No tricks in here.
Who we are
NerdHunt is run by NerdHunt, a NerdVibes project. When this page says “we”, that is who it means. You can reach us at [contact email].
What we collect
- Your email address. It is how you sign in and how we reach you. There is no password; a code or link is emailed to you each time.
- A display name, if you set one. Reports can show as “Member A” rather than your name unless you turn crediting on.
- What you tell us you collect, the shops you favourite, your home area, how far you will drive, and which alerts you want. These exist so the app only shows you things you care about. Your home location is never shown to anyone.
- Reports you file: sightings, line counts, pallet reports, bare shelves, how much is left, recaps after a visit, notes and photos. These are the point of the app and other members can see them.
- Your location, only when you report. If you turn on arrival detection, your phone tells the app which shop you are standing in, and a report filed there is saved with the coordinates and accuracy your phone gave. That is what makes a report count as verified. The coordinates are kept with the report; no screen shows them, or your position, to other members. Nothing tracks you between reports, and you can leave arrival detection off.
- Push notification subscriptions, if you turn notifications on. We keep the token your browser gives us so we can send the alert, and nothing else.
- Points earned from verified reports, and moderation records if a report of yours is flagged, hidden or corrected.
- Ordinary technical records such as the time of a request and the browser that made it, which every website receives.
What we use your email for
Signing in, invites, and updates about the project and the app: what changed, what is coming, and when the beta opens up. That is it. If we ever want to send anything that looks like marketing, we will ask you to opt in to that separately first, and saying no changes nothing about your account. We do not sell, rent or trade your address.
Who can see what
- Other members see reports, counts, notes and photos you file, attributed as “Member A” or your display name depending on your setting. They never see your email, your home area or your coordinates.
- Moderators can see who filed what, so that a report that misleads people can be traced and dealt with.
- Service providers that run the app for us: hosting, the database, and the email service that delivers sign-in codes and updates. They process data on our behalf and under our instructions, and nothing is shared with them for their own use.
- Nobody else, unless the law requires it.
We do not run advertising trackers. The app uses a session cookie to keep you signed in and your browser’s own storage for small conveniences like which tab you were on.
How long we keep it
Reports are the app’s memory of what shops have done, so they are kept for as long as the app runs, attributed as described above. Account details are kept while your account exists. Push tokens are removed when you turn notifications off or when a device stops responding.
Deleting your account
Write to [contact email] from the address on your account and we will delete it. Your email, name, settings, home area, points and push subscriptions go with it. Reports you filed stay, because other members already acted on them, but they are detached from you and show as an anonymous member.
Your choices
- Arrival detection and notifications are off until you turn them on, per device.
- Crediting your name on reports is off until you turn it on.
- You can change what you collect, your shops, your radius and your alerts at any time.
- You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, or for a correction, at [contact email].
Age
NerdHunt is for people 13 and over. If you are under 18, ask a parent or guardian before using it. We do not knowingly keep information about anyone under 13; if that has happened, tell us and we will remove it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app and by email before it takes effect. The date at the top is the date of the current version.
